Prime Minister Calls for National Effort to Restore Youth Values

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is urging a nationwide effort to encourage young people to return to church and for families to reinforce moral values. Expressing concern over what she describes as a troubling erosion of ethical standards among some youth, Mottley emphasized the importance of community involvement in reversing this trend.

Speaking during the Barbados Labour Party’s Founders’ Day service, the Prime Minister lamented the rising toll of gun violence and underscored the critical role of both the family and the church in addressing this societal challenge.

“So I ask us to go into our communities, prioritize, communicate, work with and ensure that we can make a difference to this country. Guns do not walk, and guns do not talk. It is our responsibility to ensure that our young people understand this. And if they do, then I believe that we can start to make a difference (1:12) and to see a different outcome in this country.” Mottley said

PM Mottley concluded with a call for collective action, stating, “I can only pray and I can only ask us because this is one time where many hands have to make light work.”
