Call for Breathalyser Testing Gains Momentum in Barbados

The General Insurance Association of Barbados (GIAB) is urging authorities to prioritize the implementation of breathalyser testing, emphasizing its importance in improving road safety.

Randy Graham, President of the GIAB, has voiced support for the government’s focus on new vehicle tint regulations, which are expected to be debated in Parliament this month. Police have already started testing newly acquired tint meters in preparation for these upcoming regulations.

However, Graham believes that equal attention should be given to breathalyser testing to address the pressing issue of driving under the influence of alcohol. “While we understand and support the government’s efforts on tint regulations, breathalyser testing is just as critical,” Graham stated.

He called on authorities to act urgently, suggesting that the implementation of breathalyser testing would serve as a deterrent and significantly enhance road safety across the island.

As Barbados works to modernize its road safety measures, the GIAB’s call for action highlights the need for a holistic approach to addressing traffic-related risks.
