The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) is calling on the government to provide a clear timeline for the construction of the new national stadium.
At a recent press conference, Sports Minister Charles Griffith announced that demolition of the current stadium is set to begin on April 15th. However, DLP spokesperson for sports, Dawn Marie Armstrong, criticized the announcement, stating that Barbadians are weary of repeated promises regarding the stadium’s redevelopment.
“I think the Barbadian public is growing or has grown weary—whichever comes first—of these frequent statements made by ministers. I really do hope that the minister is able to back up his claims of tearing down and hopefully rebuilding, because the stadium has been in such a state for such a long time,” Armstrong remarked.
She further emphasized the need for a definitive start date for construction, adding that Prime Minister Mia Mottley has previously indicated that major projects go through her for approval. The public now awaits further clarity on when the new stadium will officially break ground.
