A 31-year-old man from Sangre Grande, Trinidad, lost his life on Monday night in an incident involving an attempted kidnapping.
The local authorities received a notification about two gunshots in the vicinity of Ganda Road Junction, Fishing Pond, Sangre Grande at approximately 8.45 pm on Monday. Following the information, they were directed to Seecharan Trace, Fishing Pond, where they discovered an unclothed man with a gunshot wound to the right side of his neck lying on the road. The deceased individual was identified as Stefan Juri, a farmer and fruit vendor residing on Fleming Road in Fishing Pond. Tragically, he was declared deceased at the scene.
Reports indicate that Juri was shot while resisting individuals who were trying to abduct him.
Subsequently, in response to an additional report, law enforcement officers proceeded to Lemond Road in Fishing Pond. There, they encountered a white Nissan Tida parked on the roadside and proceeded to apprehend the driver. Upon searching the vehicle, the officers managed to recover a Glock 19 pistol along with ten rounds of nine-millimeter ammunition from beneath the driver’s seat.
Coinciding with these events, another team of officers reacted to a report of a vehicle on fire at Fleming Road, Fishing Pond. After successfully extinguishing the fire, it was determined that the burnt vehicle was, in fact, Juri’s Nissan Frontier.
There were previous reports of an attempted kidnapping of a male relative of Juri on the preceding Sunday. Additionally, Juri was the brother of a woman serving as a police corporal in the Emergency Response Patrol of the Eastern Division.
Sources suggest a possible connection between these incidents and a significant quantity of cocaine that had washed ashore in Sangre Grande over the weekend, amounting to millions of dollars in value.
