The parent training agency, Parados, is calling on the government to mandate parenting classes for all individuals receiving financial assistance from the state.
Cicely Clark-Richmond, Director of Parent Education for Development in Barbados, has expressed deep concerns about rising deviance among young people, emphasizing that the root of the issue lies within the home.
“I know this may not be widely accepted, but mandatory parenting classes are essential—especially for those receiving government financial aid, and even for the general population. We need to provide support for individuals before they become parents and certainly after they do.
At the end of the day, it all comes back to the home and the two people responsible for raising a child. If parents themselves are not in a position where they understand who they are, what they want for their child, and what they can provide, then we are simply spinning top in mud—getting nowhere.”
