PoeTree Barbados is a new Creative Agency that seeks to highlight spoken word in Barbados. This month as they continue to diversify their brand, they are hosting the first-ever poetry clash dubbed PoeTree Buss Ah Rhyme Battle where poets Malachi Hope and Jeremiah Toussaint will battle for a trophy and bragging rights.
Organizer of PoeTree Barbados, La Shawna Griffith said following their sold-out show on March 21st, 2024, that they wanted to have a poetry clash to allow persons to see the versatility of poetry.
“PoeTree Barbados seeks to change the way spoken word is seen in Barbados, thus this month we are hosting the inaugural clash where persons would be reintroduced to the clash element of poetry and we are really excited to have that on display. We will also have performances from our Headliner Rae as well as guest performances from Stonedwithcupid , Aaliyah Cumberbatch , Zoe Sunshine , Damani Re , Jade Imani and Raquon Hinds ,” she said.
Griffith added that at the PoeTree- A Celebration of Spoken Word on April 26th, 2024, they will be honouring two griots who have contributed significantly to the poetry landscape in Barbados and her team decided that it would be fitting to honour them as they continue to celebrate spoken-word.
“Our Executive Committee and I share a vision that we want to honour those griots who have significantly shaped the poetic landscape in Barbados whilst they are alive and well. Thus, this month we shall be honouring two griots who have contributed significantly to the poetic landscape of Barbados and we are pleased to be honouring them with our PoeTree Barbados Griot Award on April 26th, 2024,” she said whilst smiling.
Headliner of PoeTree- A Celebration of Spoken Word Ramone Rae Blackman said he is excited to give the people of Barbados a show-stopping performance.
“Last month I performed my now viral poem Search Warrant that the ladies in the audience loved. This month I am excited to showcase my versatility and allow the audience to see some of the many layers of Rae . My set shall be something that Barbadians should come out in their numbers to see,” he said.
PoeTree- A Celebration of Spoken Word will be held at the Cricket Legends of Barbados, Fontabelle. St. Michael from 8pm. The admission is $30BDS which can be paid at the door. For further information follow @poetreebarbados on Instagram.
