Tragedy struck during a bull-running festival in eastern Spain, resulting in the death of a 61-year-old man and injuries to his 63-year-old friend, as reported by local authorities.
The 61-year-old man suffered a goring in his side during the event, which took place in the town of Pobla de Farnals in the Valencia region on Saturday. Despite undergoing emergency surgery, he tragically passed away on Sunday.
His 63-year-old friend was also attacked by the same bull, sustaining injuries to both legs. Thankfully, he is in stable condition and receiving medical care in the hospital.
It is not uncommon for injuries and fatalities to occur during bull-running festivals in Spain. These events, where bulls are released onto city streets with people running ahead of them, take place in numerous locations across Spain each year.
Animal rights groups have long voiced concerns about the dangers these festivals pose to both the public and the animals involved. However, these annual events continue to enjoy popularity.
It’s worth noting that the bull-running season plays a significant role in boosting the economy of Valencia. A study conducted in 2019 revealed that it created more than 3,000 jobs in the region.
