Government to Provide Counselling for Silver Hill Community After Fatal Shooting

The Government of Barbados will offer counselling services to the family of the late Seanathan Chase and to residents of the Silver Hill, Christ Church community in the wake of a tragic fatal shooting.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, stated that the incident has deeply affected community members. Following a visit to the area with other officials and social workers, Humphrey acknowledged the emotional toll the crime has taken and pledged additional support.

Minister Humphrey expressed that when a young life filled with promise is taken so easily and unnecessarily, it evokes emotions that make rational people deeply reflective. Humphrey said that we must offer our support to this community, and he has assured the family and residents that more social workers will be deployed to provide counselling.

He noted that several young individuals have already come forward to express their concerns, underscoring the widespread impact of the crime. Residents have also voiced a strong desire for swift justice.

Humphrey, who recently took on crime prevention as part of his ministerial portfolio, clarified his role in addressing criminal activity. He indicated that crime prevention is where he engaged. He indicated that in cases where a crime has already been committed, that will be a=a matter for law enforcement. However, he is willing to work with communities to address conditions that foster crime and to help reduce its occurrence.
