The government of St. Lucia announced today that the island’s unemployment rate has reached a historic low, dropping to 8.8% in the final quarter of 2024. This marks the lowest level ever recorded in the country’s history.
According to government data, employment has steadily increased since the administration took office in July 2021, with fourth-quarter hiring rising year after year.
The unemployment rate has shown a consistent decline over the past few years. It fell from 23.9% in the fourth quarter of 2020 to 19.6% in 2021. The downward trend continued in 2022, with unemployment decreasing to 14.3%, followed by another drop to 13.6% by the end of 2023.
