In a move to suppress Western influence, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has reportedly outlawed hot dogs, deeming their consumption an act of treason. This draconian measure follows the rising popularity of a South Korean dish inspired by American cuisine.
The ban extends to budae-jjigae, a spicy Korean-American stew often containing hot dogs or spam. This dish, born from the ingenuity of locals during the Korean War who utilized discarded US military rations, has recently gained traction in North Korea.
Authorities have also reportedly increased punishments for divorce, with women facing harsher sentences than men in labor camps. Divorce is considered an anti-socialist act in North Korea, where government approval is mandatory.
These measures highlight the regime’s ongoing efforts to control its citizens and prevent the infiltration of capitalist and Western cultural values.
