Air Peace Defends Officials Indicted in US

Antigua and Barbuda – Air Peace, a Nigerian airline with a significant stake in the newly formed LIAT 2020, is defending two senior officials, including its CEO, Dr. Allen Onyema, who have been indicted by US authorities.

In a statement posted on its official X page, Air Peace acknowledged that the ongoing legal proceedings may have caused concern. The airline clarified that the charges against its officials stem from earlier accusations of financial misdeeds dating back several years.

Last week, the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia announced that Onyema had been charged with obstruction of justice for submitting false documents to the government in an attempt to end an investigation related to previous bank fraud and money laundering charges.

Ejiroghene Eghagha, Air Peace’s chief of administration and finance, was also indicted for participating in the obstruction scheme and the earlier bank fraud counts.

Air Peace, which has invested close to US$65 million in the Antigua-based airline, maintains that its officials are innocent and will vigorously defend themselves against the charges.
