Shubman Gill uncertain for World Cup opener

Shubman Gill is currently unwell and may need to take a break for several days or possibly longer. A team representative mentioned that he is not feeling well, and it remains uncertain whether he will be able to participate in India’s first match against Australia on October 8.

On Friday, there were reports suggesting that Gill might be suffering from dengue, but the exact nature of his health condition has not been confirmed. A team official shared with Cricbuzz, “He’s not feeling well, and our medical team is closely monitoring his condition. We hope he recovers soon.”

Gill, who has been in excellent form recently, was rested for the third and final game of the bilateral ODI series against Australia, where he had scored 74 and 104 in the first two matches. Despite both of India’s official World Cup warm-up games being canceled due to rain, Gill did travel with the team.

Understandably, Gill, who is 24 years old, was unable to participate in the Indian team’s practice session on Thursday, leading to speculation about who might be Rohit Sharma’s opening partner in the game against Australia. Ishan Kishan or KL Rahul could potentially take on this role.
