Outbreak Aboard Caribbean Princess Prompts Health Advisory

Public health officials in the region are closely monitoring the situation following reports of significant illness aboard the Caribbean Princess cruise vessel. The outbreak, which has affected 115 passengers and crew members, has been linked to cases of both norovirus and hantavirus. The ship’s current itinerary includes stops in the Bahamas, Aruba, and the Dominican Republic.
Despite the number of infections reported, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has issued a statement to reassure the public and the travel industry. CARPHA officials maintain that the overall health risk to the wider regional cruise sector remains low at this time.
The agency continues to work with cruise line operators to ensure stringent hygiene protocols are maintained to prevent further spread across the islands.
