Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – Ansel Roget, President General of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU), has received a resounding endorsement from his members, solidifying his position as their leader for a seventh term. The endorsement comes at a crucial time, as Roget has aligned himself with a newly formed coalition of opposition parties seeking to challenge the current government.
Roget’s leadership was lauded by Ermine De Bique-Meade, President of the Contractors Association, who assured that Roget has the full backing of his members. “We in the trade union movement are very proud of the stand that the workers and members of the OWTU took in endorsing Comrade Roget again as the leader of the OWTU through their process,” De Bique-Meade stated. “They have clearly shown their support for Comrade Roget as he continues to provide consistent leadership and direction for the union.”
Roget expressed his gratitude for the continued endorsements and emphasized the need for a united front against the current administration led by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley. “There’s a coalition now because the government of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has put the country in crisis,” Roget declared.
The newly formed coalition, spearheaded by the opposition United National Congress and including two smaller parties, signals a significant challenge to the ruling government. With Roget and the OWTU’s support, the coalition aims to capitalize on growing discontent and offer an alternative vision for the country.
This political development is likely to have significant implications for Trinidad and Tobago’s political landscape in the lead-up to the next general elections. Roget’s strong leadership and the OWTU’s influence within the labor movement could prove to be a decisive factor in the upcoming political battles.
